I Think My Garmin Is Broken, insert sad face here

December 24th, 2010...the day that Garmin and I become bffs.

Ahh what a great day

August 22nd, 2011...the day my bff decided to turn on me.

Boo what a sad day

I have been fixed in this position baffled for the past few hours, staring at the dang watch hoping that it suddenly decides it still wants to be friends with me and wondering why the heck it has turned on me.

I don't know what the heck is going on with my garmin.

The last day that it worked properly was Thursday on my long run, and during the last few miles it alerted me that the battery was low.

On Friday I decided to run without the garmin but plugged it in to be charged as before I left the house and unplugged it a few hours later when it said the battery was full.

Saturday morning as I was getting ready to head out the watch said that the battery was low again, which was odd. I figured that maybe my memory was off and I didn't really charge it like I thought.

Then Sunday came and I couldn't get it to turn on before my run. When I came home I finally got it on but it wasn't making any sound, then it wouldn't turn off.

Today as I am getting ready to head out for my tempo, the watch
COMPLETELY LOSES IT'S MIND!!!
The screen kept freezing, the timer wasn't complying, and the numbers were moving erratically in inconsistent patterns. When I plugged it into my computer it told me that there are issues with the device and the computer isn't recognizing it.
What the hell is going on with the stupid thing???

I've read online of some other people having issues with the Garmin Forerunner 110 woman's watch, but mine has never acted up until the past few days. The owner's manual is no assistance and I'm not exactly a gadget genius, so I don't really know what to do here?! I have only had the watch since December and logic tells me that a watch that costs nearly $300 should last more then 8 months.

So if you have had Garmin Forerunner 110 issues before...what did you do?
Did you take it back to the store? If so did they repair it and how long did it take?
Did you have to shell out $300 more for a new one?

HELP!!!

  3. Garmin warranty information:

    http://www8.garmin.com/support/warranty.html

Call/email and they will give you a RMA number. The only costs you should be out are to ship, insure, and track the package. You may have to go old school for a couple weeks and use a stopwatch. Sorry for your loss. Someone has to be that 1% failure rate.

  4. If you're on Twitter, you should talk to Kristine @Garmin_Chicago. She's super helpful and it pretty much always on Twitter to answer your questions!

  5. Oh nooo! :(

My first 110 failed after about 6 months. I ran a race in the rain and it got condensation under the face. A few weeks later the display completely gave out. I went back to REI (where I got it) and they exchanged it right there for me. So far, the 110 #2 has been fine.

  6. Oh gosh... I really hope you can fix this asap. Mine acted up a few weeks ago (just got in February) but once I plugged it into my computer it went back to normal. I had gone to the store and they said I had to deal directly with Garmin if I had any other issues.

    Good luck!!!!

PS - 65 push ups? You are a beast. I'm going to challenge you in October if I get to 100 haha ;)

  7. Oh no! Catastrophe! I would have a melt down and Angela would probably laugh at me because she couldn't care less about the Garmin.

Hahaha, Glee makes you sick to your stomach? That made me laugh. I am surprised I enjoy it considering I HATE musicals or anything where people break out into song and dance. But this is different...and it makes me happy. I used to make fun of it and I especially made fun of my co-workers who went to a Glee concert! But now they're laughing in my face because I got sucked in.

  8. I'm with the others above, call the garmin number and see what they can do. I think garmin carries a 1 year warranty on all of their products. I bet you can get a new one for free because of this.

I used to have a garmin 305 and loved it. But one day the band broke from the watch, and took part of the watch with it. I called garmin to see what they could do, and they couldn't do anything since I had it more than one year. Though luckily the place I bought it at (REI) has a lifetime warranty on everything you buy, so I was able to get a full refund from them.

  11. I didn't read all the comments, so I am not sure if anyone else said this, but I have heard that the tech support is great - have you tried them?

Also, the 405 has a soft reset method - does the 110? That usually helps!

I hope you don't have to send it back :( I would be so sad if our Garmin went kaput.

I love your hair in the second pic. You should do a tutorial or vid to show us how to do that! :)

  12. I don't think Garmin has a 1 year warranty.

My 405 stopped making noises, so I contacted Garmin about getting it fixed. They told me I could send it in and they would fix the problem for $60, and then there would be a 90 day warranty.

I only had my Garmin for about 9 months, so I understand your pain. You would think that such expensive pieces of equipment would be built better!

  14. I got my beloved garmin back in January 2011, I can't imagine being separated from it for more than a couple days.

The other day, mine didn't start and I freaked out, but it turned out that I had just let the battery run out.

Don't have any advice for you, but I hope it gets better asap!

  15. Oh no! I'm so sorry Britt, I wish I could help, but I have a different model Garmin, I would lose my mind if it broke. Good luck, hope you get it fixed...if all else fails...google it! lol
